South coast elopement with a hike in Mulagljúfur canyon

This elopement took place on the 1st July, 2024 on the South coast of Iceland. It was a perfect summer afternoon and we started our adventure at the majestic Kvernusfoss waterfall. This waterfall is perfect for elopement shoots as it feels more intimate and less crowded than its neighbour Skógafoss. One of the most unique viewpoints there is standing directly behind the waterfall and the best part is that you don’t get wet there! The area around Kvernufoss is as stunning as the waterfall itself, it’s lush green hills with birds flying around..looks like a movie scene.

Next stop was the famous Reynisfjara beach or the black sand beach as many tourists know it. This is hands down the most popular tourist destination in Iceland but nevertheless it never disappoints especially when the weather is moody like this.

Our next short stop on the way to the canyon was in the lupine fields, they are in bloom in June and July all over Iceland and create a prefect backdrop for a photo. The sun came out all of a sudden and this beautiful golden light made everything looks like in some fairy-tale!

Our final and most important stop on that day was Múlagljufur canyon. This is where Kelsey and Ben decided to get married by exchanging their vows and wedding rings. The hike to the top takes about 1 hour one way but the views are totally worth it! We had the most perfect weather conditions you can imagine: no rain, absolutely no wind and midnight sun! Yes, we started the hike at around 11 pm and by the time we reached our destination point the sun was setting. Everything about this evening was perfect but the cherry on top was the fact that we were there completely alone. What a dream!

It was the perfect place and time to say “I do” and nobody could hold back the tears of joy mixed with laughter.

And of course no wedding can be complete without a bottle of champagne!

This adventure elopement was definitely an unforgettable experience and I was honored to be a part of it.
