They deserve a moment where the only witnesses are the birds flying around you. True luxury in 2026 isn’t just about the view — it’s about the privacy to actually feel the weight of the moment you’re in.

In this guide, I’m pulling back the curtain on the most epic elopement locations in Iceland that take your breath away while not sacrificing your privacy privacy (including some tips on how to get crowd-free photos there). Stokksnes beach

Stokksnes is an iconic and incredibly epic black sand beach with grassy dunes and a mind blowing mountain views.

• Requires good visibility
• Easy access

If you are looking for something really impressive, look no further! It is an unforgettable place to exchange your vows and its vast open space will allow you to choose a secluded spot even if there are some tourists on the beach. If you get lucky with weather conditions you might see mirror-like reflections of the mountains – a truly magical sight.

This location is quite notorious for bad weather though, it typically gets quite a lot of rain during the year so careful planning and weather monitoring is essential. I would not recommend choosing this spot if the visibility is low or if you have very strong wind (nobody wants to fight with a sand storm during their wedding ceremony) or if the clouds are very low hiding this stunning view.

Landmannalaugar

Distance from Reykjavik: 3h
Landmannalaugar (directly translates as people’s pools) is an area in the Highlands of Iceland known for its colorful rhyolite mountains, lava fields, volcanoes and geothermal activity.

• Available only during the warmer months from late June/early July until October
• Requires a 4×4 car with good clearance
• No hotels or restaurants nearby

You can explore volcanic crater lakes, lava fields, geothermal areas and read your vows surrounded by colourful rhyolite mountains away from everyone else. You can finish your day by celebrating afterward with a soak in a natural hot spring right at the campsite – the best way to relax!

Múlagljufur Canyon

Múlagljufur is a green canyon with multiple waterfalls that looks like a scene from Lord of the Rings.

• Involves a 1-hour hike (one way) with some elevation
• Accessible during no-snow months
• Most breathtaking canyon views in Iceland

Múlagljúfur is one of those places that makes people say it feels like Lord of the Rings, mostly because it looks so pristine and untouched, the waterfalls in the distance and birds constantly flying in the canyon only add to the charm. The location was discovered by tourists quite recently so it’s not a hidden gem anymore. Going early in the morning or late in the evening is always recommended if you want to experience it all to yourself or if you are planning an intimate ceremony there.

Fjallsárlón glacier lagoon

Distance from Reykjavik: 4 h 40 min
Fjallsárlón is a glacier lagoon located on the South coast of Iceland.

• Easily accessible all year round
• Impressive views of the lagoon with icebergs (more of them in the winter), the glacier and mountains
• Less touristy than the famous Jökulsárlón lagoon

If you want a peaceful and intimate setting for an elopement, with glacial ice drifting quietly across the water as a backdrop for your vows – Fjallsárlón glacier lagoon is the epic location for you. The scale of the surrounding glaciers creates a sense of awe without the crowds, making it ideal for couples who want a calm, reflective ceremony. It’s located right next to the main Ring road and then it’s a short walk from the parking lot which makes this place very easily accessible all year round.

Lóndrangar

Distance from Reykjavik: 2 h 30 min
Lóndrangar is an area with towering rock formations and dramatic basalt cliffs on Snæfellsnes peninsula.

• No people around so perfect for an intimate ceremony
• Looks best in sunny weather at sunset or in blue hour
• Easy access from the main road plus 10 min of walking

For those who prefer dramatic cliffs and ocean views this will be the perfect elopement location. The place is quiet and secluded and is perfect for intimate wedding ceremonies if you know the right path that takes you away from the viewing platform and perfect photogenic spots. It looks best at sunset or during the blue hour in calm weather but if you are going for the more dramatic moody vibe, it can be pretty stunning in overcast weather too with the huge sea stacks towering in the distance like giant creatures frozen in time.
