Snæfellsnes peninsula engagement
This engagement session of Anna Marie and Jake took place in late May on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, a unique place with its incredible variety of landscapes—from moss-covered lava fields to striking beaches and charming villages—was the perfect location to tell their story. Late May in Iceland is a time of transition, where the lingering daylight and unpredictable weather create a uniquely magical atmosphere, and this engagement session turned out to be nothing short of enchanting.
We kicked off the day at the iconic Búðarkirkja, the Black Church, located in the small village of Búðir. This charming, black-painted church sits against a backdrop of dramatic, moss-covered lava fields, creating a stark yet beautiful contrast.
As the sun was shining brightly in the morning sky, we captured some intimate shots of the couple in the surreal lava fields with the mountains and the Snæfellsnes glacier creating a perfect backdrop.
Next, we ventured toward one of the more unique and secluded spots on the peninsula—a white sand beach framed by dramatic black lava rocks. The sight of the soft, pale sand juxtaposed with the dark volcanic rocks created an otherworldly feeling, and it made for some of the most romantic shots of the day.
Despite the beauty of the setting, the weather in Iceland has a mind of its own. After a sunny start to the day, the clouds began to roll in, dark and dramatic, casting an even more intense mood over the landscape. But instead of deterring us, the sudden shift in weather added to the magic of the session. The moody skies created an almost cinematic surreal feel.
As the clouds continued to gather and the wind picked up, we made our way to Arnarstapi, a small village nestled along the coast with one of the most photogenic stone bridges in Iceland.
The wind swept through the air, giving a sense of movement and energy to the photos, as though nature itself was celebrating Anna Marie and Jake’s love. It was one of those rare moments when you realize how perfectly in sync the natural world and your emotions can be.
One of the things I love most about the Snæfellsnes Peninsula is how it perfectly captures the essence of Iceland—wild, beautiful, and ever-changing. The landscape is vast, yet intimate. The weather can be unpredictable, but that’s part of the allure. One minute, the sun is shining brightly, and the next, the clouds roll in and the sky turns dramatic. It’s a place where you can feel the power of nature, but also find the quiet serenity that only a place like Iceland can offer.
For Anna Marie and Jake, the combination of sweeping beaches, dramatic cliffs, and unpredictable weather made their engagement session feel even more like an adventure. If you’re looking for a location that perfectly mirrors your adventurous spirit and deep connection and is not so touristy, the Snæfellsnes Peninsula in Iceland is a place like no other.
